That the Federal Government is probing past and present public officers is no longer a news. Recently the presidency made it clear on its stand on total overhauling of the country. As a reaffirmation, President Buhari was very well understood when he said he won't spare even former President Jonathan in his fight against corruption. One would be making a big mistake to take such a statement lightly. However, as the General's Purge continues to raid the country, interesting events opened up to Nigerians within the week following the arrest and detention of Oliseh Metuh. Although granted bail on the condition of 600 million, one would wonder on the fairness of the severe fight against corruption. With the two incidences within the week, the General's Purge creates some rhetoric questions. Why should Metuh appear in handcuffs before the court? Why such condition for bail? If the Presidency would dare to bring to book Jonathan, what about other past leaders?
By superficial interpretation, the General's Purge is a social sanitization on the country. However caution should be taken in the purging exercise to avoid prejudice and bias. If the Presidency wants to probe, then it must not have any tribal or political undertone affiliation. Purging should be without sentiment or reservations and free from personal relationships. That is the only way to ensure fairness to all. Therefore the media, civil societies, human rights group and others should serve as umpires as more new phases of the General's Purge unfolds.
