Each of us has a unique temperament which influences our behavior and
actions at every given time. Our actions are to an extent products of
our personality traits and intrinsic nature. The reason why we behave
differently is because we are made differently in traits, character and
behavioral patterns. And so as identical as twins may look, they are two
 separate individuals.
One of the psychological exhibitions in us
which is so real and a natural part of us as human being is our mood. By
mood I mean the state of one's mind or feeling. Our state of mind could
be intrinsically motivated or by external stimuli. It is intrinsically
motivated when our feelings and mood spurs up naturally from our inside
without any external necessitating cause, event, or happening. It also
could be externally instigated when we feel an emotion in response to an
external action or event which affects us either directly or
indirectly.
Mood swing is one of such intrinsic emotional exhibition.
This is an extreme rapid change in the mood. Most times there are no
tangible reasons for such change in mood. This manifests in various ways
in our daily life. Each of us has been victim of this at one point or
the other. One just wakes up from sleep sad, sudden feeling of
melancholy, depression, dissatisfaction in people or things previously
enjoyed, deliberate withdrawal from friends or family members to
isolation or wanting to be alone, and so on. This could last for hours
or in some cases for days and weeks before the person gets back to
normal. Although Melancholic temperaments are mostly prone to such
emotional instability, most people too are prone to such disorder which
affects their inter-personal relationship from time to time. Also mood
swing could equally be caused as a result of hyperactivity or dealing
with stressful or unexpected situations in daily life, abnormal level of
certain neurotransmitters in the brain such as serotonin and
norepinephrine. In all these, mood swing hamper relationship with
others. This can be controlled through some steps.
Developing a
network of friends through social media can help reduce mood changes.
This is possible through constant chat and interaction.
Also taking to our hobbies during our leisure time will reduce the chance of boredomness and mood change.
Regular morning exercise keeps the brain and mind active during the day.
Hanging
out with friends and loved ones is of the most effective way of getting
yourself off the mood at any point in time. We can always decide what
we do with our emotions, sink into it or fly above it.
