First it was missing chibok girls, now missing budget, all in the same country. People protested and protested, the campaign #Bringbackourgirls went viral all over the social media. Are they back? You have the answers to that. Now our missing budget. I guess we will soon champion another slogan for that; #Bringbackourbudget.
For whatever reason, the fact that the 2016 budget presented to the Senate by Mr. President is missing, sounds more ridiculous than serious. Was it stolen, misplaced or burnt? Only them at the National Assembly can answer the question. If our budget document is not save, what then is safe? If we can having missing budget documents definitely we will have missing budget funds. So besides the missing chibok girls and missing budget document, there is tendency for other missing budget allocation which has always been the tradition of our senators and ministers. How much of the funds allocated for sector as indicated in the annual budget really gets down to the grassroots implementation?
The picture of the Chibok Girls and Budget is a picture of a society where stories are shrouded in clouds of discrepancies and confusion. If the presidency wanted to withdraw the budget for some correction, it could have been done in due process. Whether true or false the assertion, I just pray one day Nigerians won't wake up to hear news of missing mace in National Assembly.
