Nigeria is unique in so many things.  Besides the multiplicity of tribes and culture, is the proliferation of religious groups in the society. It is now a common scenario to see churches and ministries littered on the streets, major roads and even at any space or vacant warehouse.  This picture makes one to think that Nigeria must be the Jerusalem of Africa. But then, your guess is as good as mine.

Nigeria has assumed a religious outlook. Not just by the number of churches on streets but also the line up of activities. Ranging from power-packed crusade, financial explosion seminar, revival retreat, worship concert, Praise jam, conferences and so on. Each church scramble for a portion of the people which in turn increases their revenue through offerings,  seed-sowing, tithe, donations and Thanksgiving.

Many reasons are traced to this religious outlook of the Nigerian society.
It might interest you to know that poverty and hard economy makes Nigerians religious.  People result to spiritual help and intervention from their challenges. They find refuge in churches and prayer houses which offer them help to their predicaments. This explains why any new church gains membership from people around and beyond.

Also the quest for material gain. Some people open churches for the income they makes from ministry from people. Churches and ministries have become a lucrative business today. With good oratory skills and charisma, one will automatically command a good number of Congregation to his place.  The more the people, the more the money.

Craze for miracle. Nigerians are miracle seekers.  They are crazy for signs and wonders,  solutions to the problems of life. People are faced with sicknesses, spiritual attacks, unemployment, not being married, barrenness and many problems. So the desire for a miracle becomes inevitable.
By and large the presence of these churches adds spiritual value to the society.

  3. My lecturer once told me that he asked a chineese man why we need God in our life. The chinees said he didnt believe that their is God bcox we need God for three things which are:prosperity, security and property. He said if he was to believe that thier is God, then his governments are his Gods because they provide him the security he need....Mr ExpressRays, are those three things the reason why we need God in our lifes?

    1. My dear reader people have different opinions as to why they need God. As a person I believe we need God for more than that. He is the essence of all existence. I think I will write an article on that. Thanks
